LMFTs are trained mental health professionals that specialize in treating a wide- range of emotional, relational and social issues. I use a relational, brief, strength- base, evidence-based approach that integrates emotional focused, Imago relational, systems, solution focused and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Good question! LMFTs approach is quite different from traditional psychotherapy where the emphasis is on the individual. Even while working with a single person, LMFTs focus on understanding you in relation to yourself and others. Your context matters. The focus is on exploring communication patterns, childhood wounds, and existing environments (family, friends, cultural, social, spiritual) that might be impacting the presenting issue. LMFTs concern for the overall, long-term, well-being of the individual and significant relationships gives them a more holistic perspective to healthcare.
A research study reported that MFTs are the mental health professionals that were most likely to be recommended to a friend by consumers. Clients of MFTs report high satisfaction with their treatment. In fact, a national sample survey reported that over 98% of clients rated MFT services as good or excellent. I offer both in-person sessions at my Chatham office and telehealth meetings via a secure, HIPPA-compliant online platform.
I’m available on weekdays and offer late evening appointments.
Individual sessions are for 45 minutes and Couples/ Parenting/Pre-marital/Family Therapy session range from 60-90 minutes.
Due to low reimbursement rates for highly skilled therapist, I am no longer a participating provider with most insurance carriers. I do offer very limited sessions with Aetna insurance. Sometimes insurance companies can be intrusive by requesting a great deal of confidential information about clients. By not participating with insurance companies directly, I can approach the therapeutic space with more control over your privacy and treatment duration.
Individual and couples therapy range from $275 to $400 per session (depending on the session’s length). I can provide you with a ‘superbill’ to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please contact your insurance provider to find out about your deductible and out-of-network reimbursement rates. The most common codes used are 90791 (initial clinical assessment), 90834 (individual therapy) and 90847 (couples and family therapy).
Many of my clients experience significant improvement in 8-15 meetings, Some clients benefit from
longer-term therapy and ongoing care. Success in therapy is also dependent on three factors:
- The presenting issue, treatment goals and prior history with the issue.
- Your commitment to treatment and willingness to work in/out of the therapy room. I typically give a lot of feedback and ‘homework’
assignments to help facilitate the ‘change’ process. - My understanding of the issue. The more willing you are to share, the better I will be able to comprehend the issue and help.
I do recommend meeting weekly as we do a lot of work in the initial phase of treatment. As you progress, we can space out the meetings.
Call or send me an email! We can set up a brief phone consult to understand what you are looking for and we can evaluate if the fit is good. Once we are on the same page, we can set up the initial meeting.
