Family Therapy and Parenting

Every family system is unique and has its own communication patterns, roles, expectations and inter-generational scripts. They go through many transitions that can cause relationships to become chaotic, overwhelming, and sometimes disconnected. Often these challenges can cause extreme distress that triggers one or more members in the family to feel stuck and develop symptomatic behaviors.

My goal in therapy is to increase cohesiveness, trust, and respect within the family system. When family members feel caught in dysfunctional patterns, therapy can help define healthy boundaries, improve communication, and develop healthy coping strategies. My training as a family systems therapist allows me to provide brief, solution-focused based guidance to help you and your family function more effectively. Average treatment time is around 8-12 sessions.

Therapy can help family’s address issues such as:

  • Strained relationships between family members (siblings and parent-child conflict)
  • Parenting challenges
  • Trauma (physical or emotional)
  • Death or Grief
  • Social, behavioral and school related-concerns with children
  • In-laws and extended family related concerns
  • Adjusting to new life changes (move, empty nesters, caring for aging parents)
  • Coping with acute or chronic illness or mental health condition of a family member
  • Anger
